Ranger Downloads Live on the Shopify App Store

Digital file delivery for Shopify stores.

Terms of service

Last updated

Ioun Developers operates this website and the apps described on it.

These terms cover the use of Ranger Downloads (“the app”) by the Shopify merchants who install it. The app is provided by Ioun Developers (“we”, “us”).

Acceptance

Installing the app, or continuing to use it, means accepting these terms. If you do not accept them, uninstall the app.

If you install the app on behalf of a business, you confirm you are authorised to accept these terms for that business.

The service

The app delivers digital files to the customers of your Shopify store. It holds the files you upload, attaches them to your products and variants, issues a private download link for each qualifying paid order, and enforces the limits you configure on those links.

What the app does is described on this site and on its App Store listing. Features change over time, and the changelog is the record of what changed and when. Some features are available only on certain plans.

Your account and your relationship with Shopify

Access to the app follows access to your Shopify admin: anyone who can administer your store can administer the app. Keeping that access controlled is yours to do.

The app is installed through Shopify and depends on Shopify’s platform, APIs and webhooks. Your agreement with Shopify is separate from this one, and nothing here changes it. If Shopify withdraws or changes the access the app needs, the app may stop working in ways outside our control.

Billing

Billing runs through Shopify. Plans, prices and any trial terms are shown on the App Store listing and in Shopify’s own billing screens, which govern. We never handle your card details.

Storage above a plan’s included allowance is charged by the gigabyte on the paid plans, reported to Shopify as usage on your subscription. The app tells you before an upload takes you over the allowance, and what that will add. On the free plan there is no charge and no overage: uploads stop at the allowance instead.

Cancelling is uninstalling. Shopify cancels the app subscription when you uninstall, and we put the store back on the free plan.

Your files, and your responsibilities

  • Rights. You must hold the rights to distribute everything you upload and deliver through the app. The app is a delivery mechanism, not a licence.
  • Lawful content. You must not use the app to distribute material that is unlawful, that infringes anyone else’s rights, or that you are not permitted to sell where your buyers are.
  • Your buyers. Your relationship with your buyers, including what you sell them, your refund policy and any promises you make about how long their downloads last, is between you and them.
  • Accuracy. The delivery email goes to the address on the order. Keeping your store’s checkout and notification settings in working order is yours to do.

Acceptable use

You must not use the app to distribute malware or anything designed to cause harm, attempt to circumvent its limits or authorisation checks, probe or interfere with the service or its infrastructure, use it to send unsolicited bulk email, resell it as your own service, or use it in a way that degrades it for other merchants.

We may suspend an installation that is being used to distribute unlawful material, that is damaging shared infrastructure, or whose billing has failed. Where it is possible to warn you first, we will.

Availability

We run the app carefully and we will tell you when something goes wrong, but these terms set no service level and make no uptime commitment. The app depends on Shopify, on our hosting, on a storage provider and on an email provider, and none of those is guaranteed to be available.

Email in particular: the app hands your delivery emails to a sending provider and records the result. Whether a receiving inbox accepts a message is not something any sender controls.

Data and privacy

What the app stores, which processors are involved, and what happens to it is set out in the privacy policy.

Intellectual property

The app, its name and its code are ours. These terms grant you the right to use the app while you have it installed, and nothing more.

Your files, your product data and your customer data remain yours. We do not claim any rights in them, and we do not use them for anything except running the service for you.

Termination, and what happens to your data

You may uninstall at any time. We may end your access if you break these terms, or if we stop offering the app, and we will give you what notice we reasonably can.

Uninstalling does not delete your data immediately. Your file library and your buyers’ existing download links are kept, and the store is put back on the free plan, so that an uninstall followed by a reinstall loses nothing. Shopify sends us a shop redaction request about 48 hours after an uninstall, and that is what deletes your files from storage and your store’s records from our database. After that, the data cannot be recovered.

If you want to keep your files, download them from your own copies before you uninstall. The app is not a backup service.

Disclaimers

The app is provided as it is. To the extent the law allows, we make no warranty that it will be uninterrupted, error free, or fit for any particular purpose.

The app is not a rights management system. Download limits, expiry and revocation control access to a link. They do not control what a buyer does with a file once it has been downloaded, and nothing in the app should be relied on to prevent copying.

The link-sharing flags are a signal for you to judge, not a verdict. The app does not block anyone automatically, and a flag is not evidence of wrongdoing.

Limitation of liability

To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential loss, for lost profits or lost sales, or for loss or corruption of data, arising from your use of the app.

Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded.

Changes to these terms

We may change these terms. When we do, the date at the top changes with them, and the current version is always this page. Continuing to use the app after a change means accepting it.
