Ranger Downloads is released continuously rather than in numbered versions, so each entry below is a date on which something merchants would notice changed. Internal work, tooling and documentation are left out.

Third-party fulfilment - 2026-09-08

  • Orders whose line items are assigned to a third-party fulfilment service are now visible to the app, so it can mark digital items fulfilled on those orders too. Where it still cannot act, it says so instead of failing quietly.

File tags, in groups - 2026-08-16

  • Tags can be collected into named groups, and each group becomes its own dropdown filter on your buyers’ Downloads page. Groups are reordered with arrows, and the tags inside one by dragging.
  • The Files page gained bulk selection, so tags can be added or removed and files deleted several at a time.
  • A file’s tag row folds after eight chips rather than running off the card.

A library for buyers - 2026-08-15

  • The Downloads page in customer accounts is now a library rather than a list of orders: buyers see every file they own from your store, filtered by file type.
  • Files carry merchant-chosen tags, which drive that filtering.
  • Settings gained a side navigation, and the tag vocabulary is managed in one place.

Plans, settings and emails - 2026-08-14

  • Plan changes moved onto Shopify’s own app pricing, and the Plan page now shows the plan you are on and the next step rather than a shop window.
  • Settings and Emails were separated: Settings owns behaviour, Emails owns wording.
  • The email logo is now a file you upload rather than something guessed from your storefront.
  • The order confirmation card can open your store’s own confirmation template directly.

Published on the Shopify App Store - 2026-08-13

  • Ranger Downloads was published on the Shopify App Store.

  • Approving a charge now returns you to the app inside your admin instead of leaving you on Shopify’s billing screen.

Steadier screens - 2026-08-12

  • Failures are shown as a banner that stays put rather than a toast that disappears before you have read it.
  • The email template editor is readable, not blank, when your plan does not include editing it.

Customer accounts, and quieter fulfilment - 2026-08-08

  • A Downloads page for customer accounts, so signed-in buyers can find their files without digging out an email.
  • Marking digital line items fulfilled after delivery is on by default for new installs.
  • View downloads in Ranger on an order and Manage downloadable files on a product now appear under More actions in your Shopify admin, and open the app already filtered.
  • A warning before storage-overage charges reach the cap on your subscription, with a way to raise it.
  • A feedback bubble in the app that emails support directly.

Resending with a note - 2026-08-06

  • Resending a delivery email now offers an optional message to the buyer.
  • Files can be sorted by clicking a column header.
  • Backfill rows can be marked as ignored and restored later, so old physical products stop cluttering the working set, and a mapping can point at a live product rather than a fixed list of files.

DNS instructions, and tidier deletes - 2026-08-05

  • The sending-domain card detects where your DNS is hosted and tailors the record instructions to that panel.
  • Deleting a file now detaches it from your products, so nothing is left pointing at something that is gone.
  • The Products page gained a coverage filter (All, Has files, Missing files) and remembers your product-picker filter.

Delivery policies, zips and back-catalogue - 2026-08-04

  • Delivery policies: choose when downloads go out, store-wide or per assignment, with an optional delay.
  • Digital line items can be marked fulfilled automatically after delivery.
  • Buyers with several files on one order can take the whole order as a single zip.
  • A download button for Shopify’s own order confirmation email.
  • Back-catalogue import: read your order history, map past products to files, and issue downloads to the people who already bought them.
  • Editable delivery and update-notice emails, and sending from your own verified domain.
  • Multi-file upload queue, plus filters and sorting on the Files page.
  • Plans, plan gates and the privacy-law request handlers.

First build - 2026-08-03

  • The file library, with uploads that go from your browser straight to storage.
  • Assigning files to products and variants.
  • Downloads created and emailed when Shopify reports an order paid, behind links that are re-checked on every click.
  • Download limits: a total, a rolling window, and link expiry.
  • Flagging for links used from an unusual number of addresses, with a review page.
  • File version history, and update notices to prior buyers.
  • Granting downloads on an order by hand, and order search.
