About Ranger Downloads

Ranger Downloads is a Shopify app for stores that sell files: rulebooks, patterns, samples, presets, print-ready artwork, anything a buyer downloads instead of receiving in a box.

You upload a file once, attach it to as many products or variants as you like, and the app takes it from there. When Shopify reports an order as paid, every file matching a line item becomes a download that buyer is entitled to, and the app emails them a private link to it.

What it does

• Upload once, attach anywhere. A file lives in your library, not on one product. The same file can sit behind a dozen products, and a product can carry several files. Attach to a whole product, or narrow it to a single variant.
• Deliver when you choose. As soon as the order is paid is the default. On paid plans you can instead hold delivery until the order is fulfilled, release it by hand, or add a delay, per store or per assignment.
• Limit what a link can do. Total downloads, downloads inside a rolling window, and link expiry. Set each store-wide, override on a product assignment, override again on one buyer’s download.
• Revoke after a refund. Revoking takes effect on the next click, because the link is re-checked every time rather than trusted once.
• Notice link sharing. A download used from an unusual number of addresses gets flagged for you to look at. It flags, it does not block.
• Ship new versions. Replacing a file adds a version rather than overwriting one, existing links start serving it, and you can tell prior buyers.
• Fix orders by hand. Grant downloads on any order, whether or not the product carried a file.
• Reach past buyers. On the plans that include it, work through your order history and give people who bought before you installed the app the files they paid for.

What it does not do

• It is not digital rights management. A downloaded file is a file the buyer has. Limits and revocation control access to the link, not the bytes.
• It does not take payments. Shopify handles checkout, and Shopify handles billing for the app.
• It does not replace your storefront. Buyers download, they do not browse a catalogue here.
